Overview
Badland's silhouette art gives everything a murky, uncertain mood, yet the action stays perfectly readable throughout. The setting is bleak, but the creature you're guiding is anything but passive - it fights to survive, squeezing through narrow gaps against a hostile world. It's easy to find yourself willing the little thing on and hoping it makes it through.
Gameplay and Experience
Badland puts you in control of a small flying creature moving through a series of tunnels, using either mouse or keyboard input. Clicking the left mouse button or pressing the spacebar makes it flap, giving a quick lift and forward push; letting go causes it to drop fast. The aim in each level is to steer it safely to an escape tube at the far end. Danger comes mostly from the environment rather than enemies: the screen itself scrolls forward once you start moving, and falling behind means losing ground. Falling rocks and spinning buzzsaws add further hazards, and the creature's movement is shaped by gravity, momentum and force. Scattered through the tunnels are glowing objects that alter the creature on contact - making it bigger, smaller, splitting it into copies, or changing how it reacts with its surroundings. These changes persist until reversed by an opposite object, and using them correctly is often essential to getting past tricky sections.
Controls
Movement is handled with a single input - left mouse click or spacebar - to flap upward, with gravity pulling the creature down whenever you stop. Reaching the escape tube at the tunnel's end completes the level, while the encroaching scroll, falling debris, and saws all threaten to end your run early. Physics affects how the creature drifts and falls, and glowing pickups can reshape it in ways that open up new routes.
How to Play
Guide the creature through each tunnel by flapping with a click or the spacebar, gaining height and forward motion with every tap. Aim for the escape tube at the end of the passage while watching for the scrolling screen and environmental hazards, which pose the main threat throughout.
Features
Runs as an official GamePix HTML5 embed with a layout that adapts to mobile, tablet and desktop. Supports touch, keyboard and mouse input, and works in landscape orientation.
Tips and Tricks
Since you're always moving forward, try to keep your attention ahead of the creature rather than on it - the terrain can shift abruptly and leave little time to respond. Settling into a steady, rhythmic flapping pattern tends to work better than reacting late.
Why You Should Play
A polished, responsive HTML5 title that sits highly in GamePix's quality and popularity rankings, playable with either touch or desktop controls.
